Happy new year from Beth Emek Communications, where we start the year with breaking news. The author of the best-selling trilogy Rashi's Daughters, Maggie Anton, will be visiting Beth Emek in less than two weeks to share the stories behind the stories and sign a few books. This is truly an honor since this trilogy is highly popular and gives us insight into one of the most influential Jewish scholars of the Common Era -- Rabbi Shlomo Yitzhaki, or Rashi. This trilogy is so engaging that it even carries the endorsement of our own Beth Emek Book Club, which is planning on discussing the last book of the trilogy at its next gathering. What more could you ask for?!
We're already in high gear for a busy January, so keep reading...

Three Women and a Talmud
Award-Winning Author Maggie Anton at CBE
Sunday, Jan 17 | 7:30p
CBE Sanctuary
Award-winning author Maggie Anton will speak about the research behind her best-selling Rashi's Daughters trilogy, set in the household of the great medieval Talmud scholar who had no sons, only daughters. Anton's research led her to address the following, and many other, intriguing questions. What was life like for Jewish women in 11th century France? Were Rashi's daughters really learned? Did they really wear tefillin? Why should a 21st century Jew care about Rashi and his daughters anyway? The answers to these questions will surprise and fascinate you.
Book sales and signing will follow the lecture. A donation of $5 is requested.

The Beth Emek Book Group is reading "Rashi's Daughters, Book III: Rachel", by Maggie Anton - what a coincidence!. Though this is the third book in the series you don't have to read the first two to enjoy the third (though the first two come highly recommended by the Book Group). And if you have any questions at all you can get them addressed by the author herself on Jan 17 (did you see the previous item???). Bring a lunch and join the discussion on Jan 20.
